Apple Gidley - An Eclectic Expat Career

This week on Inspiring Expat Interviews, we’re talking to Apple Gidley.  Many of you may be familiar with Apple as she is a frequent contributor to the Telegraph Expat.

An expat pretty much since birth, Apple’s made 26 moves and has lived in 12 different countries.  She describes herself as Anglo-Australian and is currently living in Houston Texas.  Apple’s CV makes for an interesting read as she’s embraced opportunity of living in different places to turn her hand to all kinds of different endeavors.

At heart though, she is a writer and she has built a successful career with her writing. Her memoir Expat Life Slice by Slice was published in 2012 and she is a contributing author to two anthologies; Forced to Fly and Foreign Flavours. She is currently working on a novel, Anna’s Fancy, but she’ll tell us more about that in her interview.

Apple’s experience has given her a positive ‘can-do’ attitude towards expat life. You can listen to her refreshing outlook on expat life and hear some of the great stories she has to share here.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful interview. I can relate with some of Apple Gidley's experiences, most notably the one on her father's passing. While living away from home, I received a phone call informing me that my dad was unwell and I immediately got onto a plane to go and see him. When I arrived I found out he had died that morning. Such experiences are painful; thankfully healing does come. Thank you for creating this space where we can all draw inspiration from one another. Colleta

Thank you for your kind words Colleta. Apple's words in her memoir and her articles have touched us in different ways over the years so it was a delight to interview her. So sorry to hear of your loss - it's time when distance is particularly difficult. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts. Evelyn
